My name is Rachael. When I was around 14, I began to act upon the increasing feeling of uselessness and worthlessness I felt about myself and started to hurt myself in many ways that included cutting, overdosing, burning and various other methods.

Gradually my feelings became more severe and so did my self harm. When I was 16, I was diagnosed with clinical depression and began years of medication use and counselling. I've since seen mental health nurses, social workers, counsellors, psychologists, psychiatrists and so on about my condition.

Over a decade later, not much has changed other than the conditions surrounding my life. I'm fighting an uphill battle and on this blog I'll document how it's going. Mental illness is something that affects many people and I want to share my experiences in hopes that they might help someone in some way.

I'm very fortunate and have a loving family, boyfriend and two pets (a male tuxedo cat named Jelly and a male Lhasa Apso/Bichon Frise mix dog named Charlie) to support me and help keep me going.

I spend a fair amount of my time listening to music and I would say my favourite artist is Nine Inch Nails. As anxious as I get, I'm happiest when at a concert; I've seen NIN 3 times and it's made me feel so happy for a short amount of time. Other standouts for me have been Manic Street Preachers and Linkin Park. I also like gaming and especially enjoy the Pokémon, Final Fantasy, Steins;Gate, Danganronpa and Ace Attorney series.

I hope if nothing else you'll find this blog an interesting read and I thank you for checking it out to begin with.
